ASP.NET Programmer (Part-Time, Freelance)

Job Summary
===========

The ASP.NET - (VB) Programmer/Analyst will primarily support the development, deployment and maintenance of VB based ASP.NET web applications. This may include adding new features to existing applications, building new custom applications, or maintenance on existing systems.

This position is currently available on a part-time or freelance basis, with a potential opportunity to convert to full-time down the road. Principals only please.

Minimum Qualifications
======================

  • Must be located in the Chicago area and available to work on-site in the Chicago Loop. Must be legal to work in the United States.
  • 2 years ASP.NET Web development experience (VB).
  • 3 years experience using SQL Server 2000 or 2005.
  • Knowledge of database design fundamentals and SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Experience debugging light JavaScript, CSS, and HTML using tools like Firebug.
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to investigate and analyze.
  • Good technical writing skills and willingness to adequately document all work performed.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment while keeping a good attitude.
  • Available for occasional work on Saturdays or after-hours for system rollouts or off-hours maintenance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Information Systems or Associate Degree/some college and equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
========================

  • Ability to do basic Unix tasks, like install an open source software package.
  • Experience using stored procedures and writing complex SQL and the ability to perform routine database administration tasks.
  • Experience developing with Crystal Reports and/or Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Know from a practical perspective the difference between IE and Firefox and have exposure to Safari and Chrome.
  • Experience writing applications that interact with Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel) is a plus.

Typical Responsibilities
========================

  • Primary responsibility for the support of applications and tools in ASP.NET including installation, updates/patches, upgrades, coding optimization.
  • Assist with administration, maintenance, development and implementation of legacy and new application designs.
  • Participate in second-level support as needed.
  • Review, program, test and apply changes and/or modifications to software applications.
  • Create design documentation necessary to code applications.
  • Work effectively in a team environment – support others as needed.
  • Ability to work with users to define needs, coordinate development, and provide application training.
  • Stay current on technologies and methods regarding application development.
